Book Review: My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She is Sorry by Fredrik Backman

👍👍👍👍 out of 4👍

Hi there! Are you looking for a heartwarming, totally charming and endearing book to read next? I've got you covered!  Fredrik Backman's book, my grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry is pure perfection.

Meet Elsa, a smart, proudly "different" 7 year old girl and her granny a feisty, imaginative, unorthodox old woman who you have no choice but to fall hopelessly in love with.  Elsa's entire world revolves around her granny and the imaginary world her granny cooked up in order to help Elsa cope with the complicated world we live in.  Elsa's parents are divorced and have remarried, her mother, who we know as "mum" is pregnant with Elsa's sibling who she refers to as "halfie" because he/she is only half her brother.  This is no spoiler, but granny dies of cancer very early on in the book but that is just the beginning of this story.  Granny, understanding how difficult this will be on Elsa decides to make this an adventure, a treasure hunt of sorts unknowingly helping Elsa to get to know the other adults in her life.  Her neighbors are sort of cooky and have wonderful back stories which through this adventure Elsa gets to learn and actually help them in the ways that only a 7 year old can.

What I love most about this book is the way the writer explores the complexities of relationships,  between parent and child, husband and wife, stepfather and stepchild, mother and daughter, with such honesty and vulnerability.  He handles the characters with such care, always careful not to judge who they are or what they do.  Teaching us all that we can find commonality with others, if we take the time to look closely.  This book moved me to tears, the good kind of tears.  I wouldn't say "happy" tears but the kind you shed when you feel "understood by a complete stranger".  Reminding me that I am doing ok and everything will be alright.  Pain and loss is a constant in all of our lives and that doesn't have to be the worse thing in the world.  People will come in and out of our lives to teach us a lesson and bring us closer to who we are becoming and even if we can't hang onto them forever we can always hang onto our memories of them having been forever changed just knowing them.

Bottomline: Order this book, borrow this book, beg or steal for this book.  It will move you and if it doesn't, no judgement.  💗

Up next: A man called Ove by Fredrik Backman & Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh. What is on your summer reading list?

Until next time!

2018 Ultimate One-Piece Swimsuit Guide

June 9, 2018

June is here ladies and with it the beautiful sunny weather with countless trips to the beach and pool.  Which leads me to the reason for this post.  What to wear?!?!  Well, I have got you covered with some of the best styles and patterns that will keep you covered and looking chic poolside, beachside or my favorite, all-inclusive-resortside. 😎

Lets talk about the one-piece.  Once upon a time the styles and cuts for the team one-piece was, well uninspiring.  Thankfully things have changed!  Most major clothing companies include stylish and affordable swimsuit lines, and that means a ton of one-piece, drool-worthy picks! Asos.com, for example have been a go-to for me for the last four years for some one-of-a-kind, budget friendly swimsuits.  I have rounded up a few for your viewing pleasure and even include some of my favorite cover ups. All are VERY budget friendly.
